Corrections officer steals $100K of NASCAR merchandise, deputies say

WESH-TVPolice in Daytona Beach said a corrections officer at Tomoka State Prison, who also worked part-time as a security officer at Daytona International Speedway during the races, stole more than $100,000 worth of NASCAR gear from souvenir trailers.

Shannon Wiggins, 44, was arrested Wednesday, however no jail booking photo is available because as a law enforcement officer, he can opt out of having his picture posted.

Police said Wiggins worked as a security supervisor during the Daytona 500 in 2012 and 2013.

In 2012, NASCAR items were stolen from a company called Racing Electronics that had a trailer and booth on site and during the 2013 race. Items were also stolen from two trailers owned by Americacrown.

Investigators said a large amount of brand new merchandise was discovered in Wiggins' home when they served a search warrant on Tuesday.

More items were found with a friend of Wiggins, who was selling the merchandise for Wiggins on eBay for a fraction of the real cost. continue reading...
