Parolee dies in officer-involved shooting

Press-EnterpriseAuthorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Temecula where a man suspected of assault with a deadly weapon was fatally injured.

The shooting happened around 12:35 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11 in the 40200 block of Mimulus Way, just south of Roripaugh Road, according to witnesses and sheriff’s officials. The incident came after an officer in an unmarked car collided with the taxi along the residential street.

The suspect, a 29-year-old Fallbrook man, was taken to an area hospital, where he died. The man's identity is being withheld until his family could be notified.

Two tasks forces -- the Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Team and the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force -- caught the man, who was a parolee. The shooting happened when they tried to arrest him, Martinez said.

A woman was also taken into custody during the incident, though her connection to the suspect was unavailable.

Capt. Andre O’Harra, chief of the Temecula Police Department, said they are investigating the incident, and that a number of law enforcement agencies are involved. The incident is not connected to the manhunt for Christopher Dorner, the captain said.

Temecula resident Jennifer Hammons was walking her dogs along Roripaugh when she saw the taxi coame into the neighborhood and turned south on Mimulus. She said about six cars, none of them marked, followed behind, driving slowly. continue reading...
