Inmate escapes from Wasco State prison

Law enforcement agencies are looking for a 42-year-old state prison inmate who escaped from the Wasco State Prison-Reception Center.

Officials at the "minimum support facility" found that Howard Devlin was missing at about 8 a.m. Saturday morning, according to a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation news release. Devlin had been in custody at the facility since July 13, 2012 serving a 5-year sentence from Riverside County for possession of a controlled substance and carrying a "concealed dirk or dagger," the news release said.

Prison officials contacted local law enforcement and are encouraging anyone with information to call 911, the news release said.

Devlin is described as white, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 140 pounds, medium build with brown eyes, brown hair and a moustache and goatee.

Wasco State Prison-Reception Center houses about 5,000 inmates. It's purpose is to provide short term housing while evaluating new inmates to determine their security level and "appropriate institutional placement," the news release said.
