SMPD Chief Says AB 109 Prisoners Involved in Homicide

KCOYSome of the suspects arrested and charged in the murder of Anthony Ibarra in Santa Maria last week were released from prison under AB 109.

AB 109 is California's controversial state prison re-alignment program that eases prison overcrowding by removing non-violent, so-called low level offenders and moving them to county jails or placing them on parole or probation.

"I would be remiss to say there are also people here that are on parole, people that were in the AB 109 system", said Santa Maria Police Chief Ralph Martin at a press briefing on a recent homicide investigation in the city.

Chief Martin says AB 109'ers, as they've become known in local law enforcement, were involved in the murder 28 year old Anthony Ibarra on March 17 who's body was found in the back of a U-Haul trailer parked in Orcutt in what authorities say was a gang-related killing.

Martin says he has seen a spike in certain crimes since AB 109 became law.

"I do think that with the release of some of the AB 109 prisoners that we are seeing in California, I would be remiss to say that we are not seeing an increase in crime specifically residential burglaries, robberies and assaults", Chief Martin told reporters.

County Probation Departments have developed programs to reduce the recidivism or re-offending rate of AB 109'ers. continue reading...

Say it isn't so, a spike in the crime rate related to AB-109. No that just isn't possible AB-109 is the problem solver for CDCR. Brilliant minds brained stormed to come up with this unmistakable answer to overcrowding and health care issues.

Mike Jimenez is even on board with AB-109, it has assured the safety of CCPOA members all across California. Custody staff was made whole by the greatest prison legislation in the history of CDCR.

I MUST OF BEEN DREAMING, cause in reality AB-109 is an insanely concocted nightmare, passed off as a reasonable decision to place California citizens in coldly calculated danger.

What?!?!?! How can this be?!?!?!? I thought these AB109 inmates were harmless??!!

Oh my, can it be that the morons I mean managers of this AB109 bill could have been wrong about these guys?

Could it actually be that criminals will keep acting like criminals if you let them out?

That's kinda hard to believe.
