Off-duty correctional officer reported shot at gas station

Two people have been arrested after an off-duty correctional officer was shot in the head at a Colton gas station by someone who had asked him directions moments before the attack, police said.

The gunfire erupted about 9 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at a Shell station along the 2700 block of Iowa Street, just east of Interstate 215.

Word of the incident was relayed to surrounding police agencies, which were asked to watch for a navy blue 2004 Dodge Durango. The attack was listed as an assault with a deadly weapon, rather than a homicide, suggesting that the victim survived the shooting.

By 9:45 p.m., the suspect vehicle had been stopped by police near University and Kansas streets in Riverside.

I tell other C/Os that do not carry off duty, they are sitting ducks. Carry concealed and carry as many as you feel comfortable with at one time. You have the authority do it!!
