Realignment results

News ReviewTwo recently released reports indicate that, despite some political claims to the contrary, the state’s prisoner-realignment effort is working both locally and statewide. Based on Assembly Bill 109, and triggered by order of the U.S. Supreme Court, the realignment has reduced the number of inmates in the state’s 33 prisons by about 28,000 since October 2011 by sending low-level felons to county jails rather than into state custody.

Still, there remains a misconception that realignment transfers felons from state to county incarceration or releases them early. According to a fact sheet from the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, under AB 109 “newly convicted low-level offenders without current or prior serious or violent offenses stay in county jail to serve their sentence; this has reduced the annual admissions (to state prison) to less than 35,000 a year. Prior to realignment, there were approximately 55,000 to 65,000 new admissions from county courts to state prison.”

According to the state report, since AB 109 went into effect, no offenders have received an early release from state prison, and post-realignment recidivism has actually decreased.

The new info counters the statements by such state representatives as Sen. Jim Nielsen (R-Gerber) and Assemblyman Dan Logue (R-Loma Rica), who have warned constituents that realignment is putting local communities at risk.

Last October, Nielsen held a press conference at the State Capitol and said, “This legislation, unlike any other before, has unleashed an unprecedented crime wave across the state over the past year, and it started in the very first week. This crime wave is real; AB 109 is not working.”

In March, Logue commented on Republican bills introduced to counter realignment: “The governor’s program has been a disaster. We have more hardcore criminals on the streets. We have to reduce this trend. The people of California don’t feel safe anymore.” continue reading...

These people are out of their minds! Yes of course its reducing overcrowding, but at what cost to society? This is a blatant slap in societies face. The stories in the paper, on the news, and we see first hand are real! Crime is up.

What they're doing is no different than dismissing these criminals cases and letting them out of prison to wreak more havoc.

It's disgusting to watch these morons imagine up every other option in opposed to building more prisons. Common sense and decent morals tell a person if you have more criminals than you have space, you make more space.

You don't let criminals out of jail! It send a message to criminals that they can still take part in crime and most likely get out early.

Don't let them feed you the bullshit that it's only non-violent inmates getting out,

Academy 101: A level 1 inmate can be a level 4 inmate by the end of the day!

I thought after the public outcry happened about the rising crime, someone would start listening and repeal AB109, but nope. I guess no one cares.

It is evident that the news media puts out what they are told to put out and more often than not (these days) , what is being put out has very little TRUTH VALUE.

That is why one can talk to their family, friends and neighbors and find that they are clearly NOT buying this nonsense.

Criminals have powerful advocates in high places, while their victims are simply forgotten by the politicians and CDCR executives who champion the lie that is AB-109.

The California public have been constantly lied to by those who are suppose to be serving them. Instead they are serving unsuspecting citizens up like lambs being lead to slaugther. The victims of each non-violent inmate released, who is quick to display the violent nature under estimated by the convenience of an agenda to reduce overcrowding.

Who could have imagined the system put in place to protect the public, Would be manipulated to instead serve the public's enemies.
