AP — Corrections officials say a prison doctor is recovering after she was attacked by an inmate at a Northern California state prison.
The inmate, identified Tuesday as 61-year-old Robert Daniel Perry, grabbed the doctor by her hair and began choking her during a medical appointment at Mule Creek State Prison. The prison is located in Ione, about 40 miles southeast of the state capital.
The 65-year-old doctor, who was not being identified, activated a personal alarm and other employees subdued the inmate.
A correctional sergeant was cut on the arm during the attack early Monday. Officials say Perry had a weapon made from two razor blades.
Perry is serving a life sentence from Placer County for making terrorist threats and a 50-year Kings County sentence for assault.
