The Monterey County Herald — A member of the culinary staff at Salinas Valley State Prison in Soledad was sentenced to five years in prison for bribery, Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo announced Friday.
Flippo said Rafael Lopez, 30, of Salinas, smuggled drugs and cellphones into the prison for profit.
The case was investigated by the Office of Internal Affairs of the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Lopez was sentenced by Judge Mark Hood.
