Seven honored at Law and Order

Tracy Press — A celebration of Tracy’s public safety officials by American Legion Post 172 will be held

Saturday at the organization’s annual Law and Order Night.

Each year, the local post honors the firefighters and officers of the year from the California Highway Patrol, Tracy police and fire departments, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department, Deuel Vocational Institution and Defense Logistics Agency San Joaquin fire and police departments.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a social hour at the American Legion Hall, 1960 Tracy Blvd., followed by a dinner and awards presentation to the honorees.

At the conclusion of the evening, members of the American Legion will choose one of the honorees to be the South County representative for the post at the state competition.

Tracy CHP

Officer Maurice Hughes has been a member of the Tracy CHP since January 2009. He has been a leader in the monthly DUI arrests and a member of the Special Response Team. Since joining the Tracy office, he has made 265 arrests for DUI drivers — 47 in 2013 — resulting in his recognition by the Mothers Against Drunk Drivers.

San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department

Officer Anthony Reynoso joined the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department in March 2008, working in both the custody and patrol divisions. In 2013, he joined the K-9 team, and on Feb. 8, he responded to the assault of a 72-year-old Tracy man on the 4800 block of West 11th Street. He found and arrested the suspect and recovered a gun that had been stolen in the robbery.

Tracy Fire Department

Andrew Sansaver has been a Tracy firefighter for the past five years and was promoted to engineer earlier this month. Along with his day-to-day duties, he oversees the department’s annual ladder testing, organizes the annual pancake breakfast and is a department EMS instructor and adviser to the Explorer program.

Deuel Vocational Institution

Officer Jimmy Rubio began his career with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in March 2002 at the Richard McGee Correctional Training Center. Upon graduating from the CDCR academy, he was assigned to Deuel Vocational Institution, where he is the first-watch inside patrol officer. He was named officer of the year in 2011 after he discovered a significant quantity of drugs and tobacco near the outer perimeter fence of the prison. continue reading...
