Parolee Re-Arrested After Escaping Custody In Hospital

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is investigating how a parolee escaped from a Carmichael hospital while in custody.

Grant Zaveone was taken to the hospital for injuries he received while trying to get away from deputies. The incident started when deputies tried pulling over a vehicle driven by Zaveone. They say he refused to pull over, leading deputies on a short pursuit. He eventually backed up into an occupied patrol car and ran off on foot, but was quickly apprehended.

“It was clear that this driver, who was on active parole, did not want to be rearrested,” said Ramos.

Zaveone was taken to Mercy San Juan Hospital to be medically cleared to be locked up. As standard procedure, all arrested suspects must be handcuffed while receiving medical attention. Investigators confirmed Zaveone was not. While at the hospital, his handcuffs were removed for an unknown reason.

“During the supervision of him at the hospital, at one point, he was unhandcuffed and took that opportunity to flee,” said Ramos. “We are not perfect and this happens from time to time, and there is going to be an evaluation and a debriefing to determine exactly what it was.”…..Parolee Re-Arrested After Escaping Custody In Hospital « CBS Sacramento
