DVI Case Records Technician killed in Stockton shooting

Inside CDCRJuanita Maldonado, a Case Records Technician at Deuel Vocational Institution (DVI), was one of two victims of a drive-by shooting in Stockton on Sunday, March 17.

Ms. Maldonado was pronounced dead early Monday, March 18.

Officer Joe Silva, a spokesman for the Stockton Police Department, said homicide detectives have ruled out Ms. Maldonado’s CDCR connection as a motive. “It was not because of her employment,” he told InsideCDCR.

Officer Silva said there have been no arrests, but “we are looking for some people.” He declined to give more details.

Ms. Maldonado was shot when three or four men walked toward a residence where a birthday party was being held outside and opened fire into a crowd of about 15 to 20 people, including several children, according to an earlier account from police. One other person was killed and three others wounded. The gunmen then fled.

Ms. Maldonado started her career at DVI as an Office Assistant in June 2006. In July 2008, she promoted to Case Records Technician.

“This is a tragic loss for the CDCR family,” said Secretary Jeff Beard. “We all extend our deepest sympathies to Ms. Maldonado’s loved ones.”

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, in St. Edward’s Catholic Church, 731 S. Cardinal Ave., Stockton.

A trust fund has been established for her children. Here are the details:
