South Jersey Press — A federal corrections officer died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound outside the Fairton Federal Correctional Institution Saturday night.
The body of Robert Pyott was found at about 7:07 p.m. unresponsive next to a vehicle outside the prison’s perimeter fence, authorities said Monday.
Staff started life-saving measures, but Pyott was pronounced dead at 7:27 p.m., said authorities.
There were no signs of foul play.
The FBI and the New Jersey State Police are investigating.
Pyott had worked at FCI Fairton since March 19, 1995.
