Two women arrested for attempting to bring narcotics into prison over weekend

Imperial Valley PressTwo women were arrested in separate incidents over the weekend for attempting to bring narcotics into Calipatria State Prison.

In the first incident, Maria Hernandez, 22, of Los Angeles was being processed to visit inmate and convicted murderer Andrew Ramirez, said Lt. Everardo Silva, Calipatria Prison administrative assistant and public information officer.

Visiting staff noticed that Hernandez appeared nervous and refused to make eye contact with staff so they began to ask a series of questions that Hernandez didn’t answer consistently.

The visitor consented to a search, and during the search, she relinquished six bindles of suspected heroin. The narcotics had a combined weight of 21 grams and has an estimated prison value of $15,750, Silva said.

The evidence collected linked Ramirez to the crime, he was placed into the prison’s administration segregation unit while Hernandez was booked into Imperial County Jail facing felony charges.

In the second incident, Jazzimyn West, 24, of Escondido was visiting inmate and convicted burglar Shadd Robinson when staff noticed she was behaving suspiciously. continue reading...
