AP — An inmate at a Sacramento-area prison has been sentenced to life behind bars for the second time, this time for attacking a doctor and cutting off part of a fellow prisoner's ear lobe.
Maurice Jones was sentenced Tuesday in Sacramento County Superior Court for assaulting an inmate with a deadly weapon, possessing a sharp instrument and battery on a non-inmate.
Shelly Orio, a spokeswoman for the Sacramento County district attorney, says the 43-year-old has been serving a life sentence since 1992 for a Los Angeles County murder.
He was convicted last month of slashing another inmate's neck and ear with a razor in 2006 and kicking a doctor in the eye in 2010 during a routine medical visit.
He remains at California State Prison, Sacramento, where the assaults occurred.
