Inside CDCR — The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the California Prison Industry Authority (CALPIA) to collect electronic waste (e-Waste) from CDCR institutions and offices.
Free pickups are now available by appointment through CALPIA.
According to CDCR, many institutions have stockpiles of e-Waste that either need to be disposed of, refurbished, or recycled in a responsible manner. This includes computer equipment, televisions, communications systems, power supplies, printers and more.
For a complete list of collectable items, go to http://www.calpia.ca.gov/E-Waste/E-Waste.pdf.
CALPIA is using its statewide transportation system through its existing routes to pick up e-Waste from customers free-of-charge. To arrange a pickup, call (916) 229-3096, or email ewaste@calpia.ca.gov .
CALPIA is providing a convenient disposal system while training offender-participants to be certified e-Waste handlers upon parole.
CDCR Free-Venture participants are also earning industry certifications by refurbishing computers for CDCR re-use.
