The Californian — Daniel Montano, 39, an inmate at the Correctional Training Facility at Soledad, was convicted by a jury on Tuesday of a felony offense of possession of heroin, a controlled substance, at the prison on April 16, 2012, according to District Attorney Dean Flippo.
Montano had attempted to flush six containers of small amounts of heroin bindles, down his cell toilet to prevent discovery by correctional officers during a cell search.
Three more bindles of heroin were found in the pocket of a pair of shorts he was wearing and another bindle was found on his bunk in the cell.
Judge Julie R. Culver will sentence Montano on Dec. 3.
He faces a maximum of 25 years-to-life consecutive to the sentence he is currently serving.
Montano is serving a term of 45 years-to-life in prison for a conviction of second degree murder, a strike offense, out of Los Angeles County.
