The Sun — A suspected would be robber got more than he bargained for when he allegedly tried to rob an armed off-duty correctional officer in Victorville Monday night.
Authorities arrested three teen boys and one man suspected in the attempted robbery.
Deputies found the off-duty California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Correctional Officer around 8:45 p.m. in the Burger King parking lot in the 12000 block of Palmdale Road after he shot at his suspected attacker.
Sheriff’s officials said the correctional officer was sitting in his car using his cell phone when a teenage boy allegedly armed with a handgun walked towards his car, according to a sheriff’s news release.
The correctional officer fired several shots hitting his suspected attacker. The gunman ran from the area, dropping the gun as the officer was calling for help, according to the release.
Sheriff’s officials said the gun, described as BB gun, was recovered at the scene and after a search of the area three juvenile and one adult suspect were found.
The alleged gunman was flown to an undisclosed hospital to receive treatment for his wounds, sheriff’s officials said.
Officials said he’s expected to survive.
