Three visitors arrested at Calipatria State Prison over weekend

Imperial Valley PressThree woman visiting Calipatria State Prison were arrested over the weekend on suspicion of drug-related charges.

In the first incident, Arika L. Fealings, 35, of Hawaiian Gardens, came to the prison on Saturday to visit inmate Demar Shows who has been convicted of attempted murder, said Lt. Everardo Silva, Calipatria State Prison administrative assistant public information officer.

Prison visiting staff noticed that Fealings appeared nervous, and during questioning, Fealings relinquished eight bindles containing a combined weight of 7.1 grams of marijuana with an estimated prison value of $1,650.

Fealings was booked into Imperial County jail on suspicion of felony charges. The evidence collected linked Shows to the crime, and he was placed in the prison’s administration segregation unit.

In the second incident, Winisha S. Griffen, 20, and Shante D. Keeles, 34, both of Los Angeles, were being processed to visit an inmate when staff noticed the smell of marijuana on both of them as well as signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

The women consented to a search of their vehicle, and there, prison visiting staff found 13 grams of marijuana and a knife. The marijuana has an estimated prison value of $3,016, and it’s illegal to bring a knife onto institutional grounds.

Griffen and Keeles were booked into Imperial County jail on suspicion of felony charges.
