Cleveland Corrections Officer fired for wrongly releasing murder suspect

A Cleveland Correction Officer was fired Friday, after releasing a murder suspect from jail.

According to City Safety Director Martin Flask, Correction Officer Toya Tell-Byrd was terminated Friday, following an Administrative Hearing on Dec. 28 to address the results of an internal investigating wherein Tell-Byrd engaged in improper conduct and violation of the Manual of Rules and Regulations for the Cleveland Division of Correction.

During the hearing, she admitted that she used "bad judgment" and failed to properly read or acknowledge the presence of a Cuyahoga County warrant charging an inmate in her custody with Aggravated Murder.

Through her carelessness, murder suspect Drew Danzy, who faces a possible death penalty or life imprisonment was allowed to go free and has yet to be brought back into custody.

Drew Danzy was in the Custody of the Division of Correction on an Aggravated Murder Warrant and a Contempt of Court Traffic Warrant when he was released in error after a court appearance on Wednesday, December, 19, 2012 at approximately 11 a.m.

Cleveland Police are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to please contact the Cleveland Division of Police at 621-1234 or the US Marshalls Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force at 1-866-4WANTED or Text keyword WANTED and tip to TIP411 (847411).
