AP — The Kern County coroner's office says an inmate killed during a fight this week at a San Joaquin Valley prison died from a gunshot wound.
The office released the results of its autopsy of Wasco State Prison inmate Angel Torres on Tuesday. It gave his age as 21, though the office previously said he was 22.
Lt. Floyd Harl, a prison spokesman, said a guard fired one bullet to quell fighting among about 40 inmates Monday morning.
Two other inmates also were taken to outside hospitals for treatment. Harl said Tuesday that it was unclear what caused their injuries. Several inmate-made knives were recovered.
Several other inmates were treated at the prison for minor injuries.
Torres was serving an 11-year Riverside County sentence for assault with a deadly weapon.

professionally, 40 man riot w/ weapons found sounds like the criteria were present for a good shoot. personally, don't need to sound like another stg (prison gang) member by saying "drop that ass".
I agree that we as officers shouldn't use verbiage that sounds like that of the inmates. We're better than that.
I also agree that other law enforcement agencies support their officers when shooting occur. CDCr is different, if they can sacrifice an officer to avoid blame or questions they'll do it.
It's just the nature of the beast we work for.
If the Officer shot within policy, which what I read sounds like he or she did. Then CCPOA Attorney should have no problem defending the person. The Officer should be commended for following policy and doing their job.
Shoot within policy and the department will back you. At least that was my experience. My thoughts are with the officer. Taking a life is a profound event, even when it's justified and necessary. We all respond to these events differently, but in my humble opinion, comments like "drop that ass" trivialize the officer's actions and undermine our professionalism.
I agree taking a life is profound.I was there and the Officer was within policy,we all are backing the Officer.But never trust CDCR!!!
