The Record — One of two boys who escaped from the Camp Peterson juvenile detention facility in French Camp on Thursday evening died after being found unresponsive in a nearby field, authorities said.
San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the Juvenile Justice Center shortly after 7 p.m. to aid in the search for the two boys, officials said. Tracy Brown Jr., 16, was found unresponsive on the ground in a field nearby, authorities said. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead later Thursday evening, authorities said.
Brown did not have any obvious signs of trauma, officials said. The cause of death is pending autopsy and toxicology results, authorities said.
The second escapee was not located, but law enforcement officials are actively searching for him, authorities said.
